What’s In The Pantry | The Bread & Butter Project

Ifresh has always been a proud supporter of The Bread & Butter Project and continues to be inspired by their dedication to creating a positive impact. Recently, Dominic Romeo from Ifresh had the opportunity to visit The Bread & Butter Project, immersing himself in their commendable work, and he's eager to share their story with our loyal customers.

The Bread & Butter Project is Australia's premier social enterprise bakery, committing 100% of their profits to empower their people. This remarkable initiative offers training and employment pathways for refugees and asylum seekers, greatly enhancing their chances of successful resettlement, sustained employment, and integration.

Philip Hoban, General Manager at The Bread & Butter Project, conveyed: "Every profit we make is channelled back into the business for training. Since our inception, we've guided 45 trainees, and impressively, all have secured full-time employment. Given the broader context where only about 70% of refugees in Australia achieve this, our 100% success rate is something we're deeply proud of."

The training model is comprehensive. Trainees undergo a 6- to 8-month program encompassing on-the-job bakery training, TAFE accreditation, English-language lessons, job readiness support, and more, ensuring they are well-prepared for the post-graduation workforce.

Yet, the vision of The Bread & Butter Project extends beyond immediate training. As Mr. Hoban notes, "Our ambition is perpetual growth, striving towards self-sufficiency. While we still lean on philanthropic contributions, our endgame is full sustainability. Once there, we aim to bolster other social enterprises on their journey to self-reliance."

In ventures like these, Ifresh is honoured to stand beside, recognising the power of community and the value of giving back.
